The regional public transportation program provides public tranportation for residents of Butts, Lamar, Pike, Spalding, and Upson Counties and has operated in this region since 1999. The regional public transportation program is administered by the McIntosh Trail Regional Development Center, and is one of two suburban regional public transportation systems approved by the Georgia Department of Transportation.
The regional public transportation plan operates under a "demand response" model which means that there are no fixed routes, bus stops, or pick up times. With a deman response model, residents call in and order a trip 24 hours in advance, and daily routes are generated based on the destinations requested. The transportation operator will attempt to accommodate all callers for the times they request.
In order to schedule a trip on the public transportation system, please call 770-229-4885 or in Upson County call 1-800-906-3257. The service is offered Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Call for pricing information.

The Friends of the J. Joel Edwards Library invite the community to join us for a fond fare-the-well celebration for longtime library manager, Rosemary Bunn. The event is being held on Tuesday, 23 April, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the Zebulon City Park Pavilion. Friends and well-wishers are encouraged to drop by and help us honor Rosemary.
Rosemary retired late last year after serving the community and the library for more than thirteen years. For many in the county and community, Rosemary epitomized the library. She presented programs to the schools, instilling a love of books and reading in thousands of students. Her innovative annual Summer Reading Program events drew capacity crowds and high praise from those attending.
In 2020, Rosemary was able to fulfill a dream of establishing a hands-on ‘makers space” at the library where the community could make use of high-end crafting equipment. This proved a boon to teachers, media specialists, and patrons. The maker space continues to thrive and will do so for years to come.
Rosemary has already embarked on new adventures. She intends on spending a fair amount of time playing in the dirt, as she whimsically refers to her love of gardening. Even so, we want to give her a proper send-off in appreciation of all she has done, and will continue to do, for Pike County.
This is a casual, drop-in type party. We hope to see you there!
The Col. John H. Baker Camp #1705 Sons of Confederate Veterans are raising funds for a headstone for Pike County soldier 2nd Lieutenant Thomas Jefferson Blasingame. Lt. J.T. Blasingame 1840 - 1910. Lieutenant J.T. Blasingame was in Co. I 32nd Reg. Ga, Inf.
Lt. Blasingame served with the Confederate Army from 1861 until 1865 and lost a arm on Feb. 20, 1864 in the Battle of Olustee, Fl. After the war Blasingame returned to Pike County and became a teacher. In 1873 he was elected ordinary of Pike County and in 1889 he was elected Clerk of the Superior Court.
Blasingame was married Miss Celia Ann Adams and had five children. He was a member of the Missionary Baptist church and belonged to the fraternal order of Knights of Honor. Mr. Blasingame was one of the most popular citizens of Pike county in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
He is buried in East View cemetery in Zebulon beside his loving wife, and for some reason he nevered recieved a headstone. It is our honor to try and provide this Pike county hero a proper headstone.
The American Legion seeks young adult citizens to attend this year’s Georgia Boys and Girls State sessions. This American Legion program is a course of instruction in, as well as, a practical application of the fundamental principles and procedures of city, county and state governments under the American democratic system. A session, usually lasting five days (Boys State: 9-15 June 2024 and Girls State: 9-14 June 2024), and are conducted with top-ranking high school boys and girls as citizens.
Under the guidance of skilled counselors and other staff members, these boys and girls learn and then practice through self-government, and the duties, responsibilities, and privileges of American citizenship. This program offers training in the practical processes of self-government and good citizenship as practiced in a democratic society. At Boys and Girls State, the "citizens" study local, county and state government processes. They do this by setting up their own miniature city, county and state governments and administer them according to the laws of the state of Georgia. Boys and Girls State citizens participate in mock political parties, and elections are held to fill city, county, and state positions. Activities include legislative sessions, campaigning, party rallies, debating and voting. The citizens also receive special instruction in Parliamentary Procedures. The delegates actively learn government processes. This learning experience better familiarizes the participants with their duties as United States citizens and encourages their participation in the democratic process as they progress into adulthood. The Boys/Girls State programs include the following objectives: develop leadership and pride as American citizens, educate young citizens about the American system of government, instill a greater understanding of American traditions, and stimulate a desire to maintain the American democratic government processes.
The selection criteria to be eligible to attend Boys and Girls State is being a legal resident of the United States, currently in the 11th grade and at least one more semester remaining before graduation, keenly interested in government and current events, and demonstrating a high moral character, strong leadership abilities, and above-average scholastic achievement. The program is challenging; however, completion of Boys or Girls State looks good on university/college applications and even initial job resumes.
The Pike County American Legion Post 197 is sponsoring two boys and two girls which include the program fees. Both Boys and Girls Sessions will be conducted at Valdosta State University in Valdosta, GA. Those who think they meet the selection criteria and are interested in attending Boys or Girls State, have questions concerning the programs, or would like more information and application paperwork can contact Bryan Richardson at 678-764-2611 or email rich5060@bellsouth.net, The deadline for application paperwork is 26 April 2024.
Additional information can be obtained from the websites: Boys: Boys State and Girls: Girls State.
