Several Wrecks Took Place in Pike County on Friday

ZEBULON - Just one day after the horrible wreck in front of the library in Zebulon, first responders and law enforcement were called out to three separate wrecks in Pike County.

Highway 18 and Reidsboro Road

The first occurred on Highway 18 at Reidsboro Road around 9:08 a.m. According to the press release from the Pike County Sheriff's Office, deputies arrived on the scene and found that a BMW passenger car had attempted to turn onto Reidsboro Road from Highway 18 and struck a Chevrolet Blazer causing it to leave the roadway and roll over several times.

The driver of the Chevrolet Blazer, Mikal Chambley, 18 years of age, was ejected from the vehicle. He was subsequently air lifted to Grady Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

The driver of the BMW, Caleb Caldwell, 19 years of age, was not injured and has been charged with failure to yield while turning. Mr. Caldwell advised that he did not see the Chevrolet Blazer prior to making his left turn.

Major David Neal of the Pike County Sheriff's Office confirmed that this wreck is still under investigation with no further comments to the media.

Highway 362 at the Spalding County Line

A call went out about a wreck on Highway 362 at Little Street around 11:23 a.m. A 2003 Lincoln LS driven by Bridgette Murphy of Griffin side-swiped a 2008 Dodge Charger driven by Brenda Dieckmann of Williamson.

According to the accident report, Ms. Murphy stated that she was traveling east on Georgia 362 when she tried to grab a bottle to give to her one year old baby and lost control of her vehicle. The passenger of the second vehicle told deputies that they were heading west on Georgia 362 when they noticed the Lincoln LS crossing over into their lane.

Ms. Dieckmann attempted to avoid a collision by getting off of the road but was side-swiped on the driver's side door. A witness stated that the Lincoln LS was all over the road and swerving back and forth in the wrong lane. There was damage to an AT&T pole in a yard where this accident took place as well.

Ms. Murphy, the driver of the Lincoln LS, was charged with driving while license withdrawn, failure to drive within a single lane, driving on the wrong side of the road, and for not having the 1 year old in a child safety seat.

The drivers of both vehicles were transported to Spalding Regional Medical Center by Grady/South Georgia Ambulance. This accident is also still under investigation.

Highway 18 and County Farm Road

There was also a wreck at Highway 18 and County Farm Road late in the afternoon. Thankfully, this was a minor fender bender with no injuries.
