MOLENA - Pike County deputies responded to a vehicle accident at 3:26 a.m. on Sunday morning on Highway 109 in the area of Weems Road. A Kia Sorento had been traveling westbound when it left the roadway and struck several trees.
The passenger in the vehicle, Christina Payne, 27 years of age, was deceased at the scene. The driver, Jacob Norton, 29 years of age, was airlifted to Atlanta for medical treatment.
Sheriff’s Office traffic investigators are working to determine the cause of the accident. A blood sample was collected from Norton for a blood alcohol/toxicology test to be conducted by the GBI crime lab.
