Pike Clerk of Court Carolyn Williams Selected as Clerk of the Year

ZEBULON - Pike County Clerk of Court Carolyn Williams was selected as Clerk of the Year for the entire state of Georgia. She was awarded during the April 25, 2017 annual Spring Conference at St. Simon’s Island.

Carolyn was voted for by 159 Superior Court Clerks throughout the state of Georgia. “The presenter read letters from my family members, the judges, attorneys, and others commending me for this honor,” she said. “This is tremendous honor.”

Vera Hammond, Deputy Clerk, Criminal Division wrote, “Through hard work, determination and lost of love for what you do, you earned the title and it suits you well!” she said. “I’ve spent the last fifteen plus years working for you and I can honestly say that there’s never been a dull moment!”

Chief Deputy Clerk Pam Thompson wrote, “ To have been doing this after more than 28 years says a lot about your commitment to the people of Pike County. It amazes me that you manage to do all that you do for so many people and still keep going.”

Tom Morton wrote in his note of congratulations, “In my capacity as County Attorney, but more so as a longtime friend, it is with a deep sense of personal heartfelt feeling that I saw what a tremendous honor and so well deserving. You stand tall.”

Rita Harkins, Clerk of Superior Court in Lumpkin County wrote that she has known Carolyn for over 25 years and practiced law in her courtroom before her election as Superior Court Judge in 1998. She praised Carolyn for working closely with her to resolve countless matters to keep the judicial system running as smoothly as possible. “Carolyn has worked diligently to keep Pike County in the forefront of technology and Pike County files have been on line and accessible to court personnel for many years. In January, 2015, the Clerks in three counties in the Griffin Judicial Circuit implemented e-filing, thereby making the Griffin Judicial Circuit the first circuit in the State of Georgia to implement e-filing.”

Marsha Landers, Pike County Deputy Clerk, Juvenile Division, congratulated Carolyn and said, “You continue to bring Pike County into the forefront with your strong leadership. Your achievements, knowledge of the law, your pioneering ideas, and desire to keep your office current with the fast pace of digital changes are all part of what makes you a great Georgia Clerk of Court.”

Judge Fletcher Sams, Judge Ben Miller, Jr., District Attorney Ben Coker, and Attorney David Dunaway all wrote letters of congratulations as well. David Dunaway summed it up by saying, “The Griffin Judicial Circuit would not have been the same if you had not been here with us.”

This award hangs in Carolyn’s office in the courthouse. Carolyn has been Clerk of Court here in Pike County for 30 years.
