ZEBULON - In conjunction with the 50th Anniversary Commemoration of the Vietnam War, the State of Georgia would like to honor every one of its 234,000 Vietnam Veterans. To accomplish this goal, the Georgia Department of Veterans Service, in partnership with the Office of Governor Nathan Deal, has created the Vietnam War Certificate of Honor Program. Every Georgia Veteran with honorable service during the Vietnam War era is eligible to receive this certificate. With the help of the Pike County American Legion Post 197, these Certificates of Honor will be ceremonially presented to 77 Vietnam Veterans within Pike County. In addition to the Certificate, each awardee will be presented with a Department of Defense Lapel Pin.
The Pike County American Legion Post 197 is pleased to announce that it is hosting the Salute to Georgia’s Vietnam Veterans Ceremony for Pike County. The Vietnam Veteran honorees, their families, and the public are cordially invited to attend this Ceremony on Sunday, 15 May 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at the Pike County School Auditorium on Highway U.S. 19 in Zebulon, Georgia.
Highlights of the Program will be Patriot Guard Flag Line; videos and music video tributes; POW/MIA/KIA tributes; National Anthem sung by Rebekah Hanson; Reading of the Pike County Georgia Proclamation proclaiming 15 May 2016 as Pike County Georgia Vietnam Era Veterans Day, remarks by Georgia Department of Veterans Service Commissioner Mike Roby, State Senator Marty Harbin, and Georgia Adjutant General Brigadier General Joe Jarrard; reading of the Georgia Proclamation, Presentation of the Georgia State Certificates of Honor and Department of Defense Lapel Pin, all followed by a Honoree reception and refreshments.
