GRIFFIN - Do you worry about where your next meal will come from? Chances are if you are reading this article right now that concern never enters your mind. Imagine then what it must be like for those who experience it as a daily problem. According to Feeding America, the nationwide network of member food banks, this is often a concern for over 20% of Spalding County residents. More than 13,000 people in our community are food insecure meaning they lack access, at times, to enough food for an active, healthy life for all household members. It means that sometimes paying the rent or a medical bill leaves little money for purchasing nutritionally adequate foods.
Five Loaves and Two Fish Food Pantry provides groceries for families in need, but they are requesting your help, especially before Thanksgiving, when the demand is the greatest. Wouldn't it be comforting to know when you sit down to Thanksgiving dinner that others in your community would be able to do the same and have a happy Thanksgiving? Please help make this happen by donating a frozen turkey or making a donation so the Food Pantry can provide those in need with groceries this Thanksgiving.
Frozen turkeys (must be frozen) need to be delivered by November 19 to Five Loaves & Two Fish Food Pantry, 412 W. Slayton Avenue, Griffin, GA 30223. This is located in the same building as the Hope Clinic (at the rear) at Solomon Street and 10th Street. The pantry is open Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 5:00 to 6:00, and Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The facility is closed on Fridays and Sundays. Donations (checks please, no cash) are also welcome during those hours or can be mailed to the same address.
