Southside Riders Donate Teddy Bears to Local Law Enforcement
By Editor Becky Watts

ZEBULON - The Southside Riders Association (SRA) made a donation of teddy bears and stuffed animals to the Pike County Sheriff’s Office and Zebulon Police Department on February 11, 2015. These bears are a way to bring a smile to a kid's face in the midst of a traumatic event. This donation to help children in our area was a result of a Teddy Bear Run (a motorcycle ride) that took place last year at Truett’s Grill in Griffin.

SRA member Jimmy Kent said that it rained on the day of the last Teddy Bear Run so only a few people showed up on their bikes to ride down to Fort Valley and back. But that was enough for people coming through Truett’s to ask what they were doing. He said that when people found out that they were collecting teddy bears to go to law enforcement agencies and local hospitals, they started donating money as well as buying teddy bears to put in the collection box at Truett’s Grill.

1,006 bears were collected during last year’s Teddy Bear Run. Mark your calendars for the July 25, 2016 Teddy Bear Run at Truett’s Grill in Griffin. There will be a box in the restaurant approximately a month before the event for donations too.

The Southside Riders Association has been around for sixteen years and holds many rides every year including the annual Tab Run in Griffin that collects the tabs off of aluminum cans and donates them to the Columbus Ronald McDonald House to help them pay their expenses and hosts a DFCS Christmas party every year as well. The Southside Riders Association is a non-profit, charity centered group of motorcycle enthusiasts who have organized for the purpose of improving the image of the motorcyclist in our community and they often give their time and efforts to support children.
