THOMASTON - I told my kids this afternoon that I think that the whole world should stop for at least a few minutes to acknowledge and honor the passing of one of our soldiers. In Thomaston, Georgia this afternoon, a community did just that.

The Patriot Guard, the local fire departments, and law enforcement did an outstanding job of honoring this young man and his family.

I hope that the family is able to find some comfort in the midst of this time of sorrow by seeing that the community supports them as well. My family was at Justin's Place by the Flash at Jeff Davis and there were people from all over there. I know that it was the same all of the way down to the square. I will continue to pray for this family for many months to come.

The Department of Defense announced Sunday that PFC Monterrious T. Daniel, a Fort Carson soldier, originally from Thomaston and Griffin, was killed during a deployment in Camp Beurhing, Kuwait in a non-combat related incident on Friday, June 12.

PFC. Daniel’s remains will arrive at the Thomaston-Upson County Airport Monday, June 22, at 1 p.m., a military honors welcome and procession will immediately follow the landing. A procession will go from the airport through downtown Thomaston escorted by the Patriot Riders and end at Bentley and Sons Funeral Home. The community is encouraged to come out and pay their respects to PFC Daniel, our fallen hero, by attending the arrival at the Thomaston-Upson Airport and or line the streets to greet the procession.

The procession route is Thomaston-Upson County Airport to Delray Road to Hwy 19 North, downtown Thomaston, around the square ending at Bentley and Sons Funeral Home, located at 518 North Hightower Street.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 24 at noon at the Upson County Civic Center. Bentley and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

PFC Daniel was 19 years old and the son of Yolanda Gray of Griffin and Christopher Daniel of Thomaston.

Daniel joined the Army 14 months ago and his deployment started in February, according to a Fort Carson spokeswoman. He was an 89-B ammunition specialist and received the National Defense Service Medal and Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal. He was assigned to 68th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 43rd Sustainment Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, in Fort Carson.
