GRIFFIN - In reference to the accidental shooting of a juvenile on April 15, 2019, the Griffin Police Department has concluded their investigation. There has been an arrest made in reference to the incident. The juvenile is recovering from his injuries.
After further investigation, it was determined that the child was left with a neighbor in an upstairs apartment while the father was at work. The children went to the downstairs apartment to retrieve a video game and were to return immediately.
It was during this time in the downstairs apartment that the children retrieved the firearm from the top shelf of the closet by using a kitchen chair. While the children were playing with the firearm, an accidental discharge occurred during the mishandling of the firearm during an exchange. While being interviewed, the father of the child claimed the firearm belonged to him.
The father of the child, Tremell Reives, was arrested on April 22, 2019 and charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
