Group Collecting Used Shoes for Mission Trip

ZEBULON - Stacie Boyt and her daughter Jessie, Alyssa Womack and Mariela Dubose are collecting gently used shoes to raise funds for a mission trip to Nicaragua in July. Collection continues through April 28th. Any type of shoes can be used as long as there is a matching pair and they are gently used.

The shoes will help out in two ways. First, the shoes will help send a team to Nicaragua this summer to provide medical care and ministry to children. Second, the shoes are repurposed to provide an economic boost by creating micro-enterprise opportunities in developing nations like Haiti and many parts of Africa.

So far, they have collected 45 bags of shoes, but need our help to collect the remaining 55 bags to make up the minimum of 100 bags containing 25 pairs of shoes. Meeting this goal will help them because they will not have to pay shipping for the shoes.

The more that they collect, the better! As long as the shoes have no holes in them, they are good to go! They can earn up to $1,000 for each 100 bags of shoes that they collect and need to raise $3,200 to go on their mission trip.

Rick Womack, Pastor of Mountain Gap Church and George Capo will also be going on this mission trip. The mission trip will be for seven days in Managua, Nicaragua with a group from Lifepoint Ministries. These six volunteers are going to minister to people in that region and help the missionaries in that area by showing the love of Christ through attending to their medical needs.

The letter than Stacie forwarded to me says the following: “I am looking forward to the challenges that taking this step of faith will bring and also the rewards in spiritual growth that come with walking in faith. But it is the opportunity to serve others for our Lord Jesus Christ that offers me the greatest joy. God has blessed me and enabled me to learn how to meet the medical needs of people and I consider it an honor to use these gifts to glorify God.”

This is not Stacie's first mission trip. This is her third.

"Every trip gives my heart to the people because such need that what little we can do makes a big impact on their lives," said Stacie. "It's very humbling and I'm glad to be a part of it."

These volunteers will minister to others by showing and teaching God’s love as well as supplying medical supplies and treatment to those in need. They plan to help wherever the missionaries need them to help!

Your donation helps fund a team of people who will provide medical care and children’s outreach in Nicaragua. There are collection boxes at the Barnesville Public Library in Lamar County, the Thomaston Chamber of Commerce in Upson County, and Racquethause South in Pike County.

If you or your church family has a large collection of shoes that you would like to donate, call Mountain Gap Church at 770-567-3734 and they will pick them up! Collection continues through April 28, 2016.
