Board of Education Member Resigns; District 1 Seat Is Open
By Editor Becky Watts

ZEBULON - There is an open seat at the Pike County Board of Education since District 1 member Ryan Edge has resigned from his seat. Edge was arrested by the GBI on January 5, 2021 for six counts of felony theft by deception. Click here to read that article.

His case has not been to court at this time. However, earlier this month Edge sent a letter to School Superintendent Dr. Michael Duncan and fellow board members which outlined the reasons for his resignation.

The letter is included verbatim below:

“When I decided to run for school board almost 10 years ago, I did it to be a voice for the students and faculty of this school system. I have had the pleasure of working with some of the most wonderful educators and staff during this time. I have been blessed to work with one of the finest school boards in the state. These fellow board members are selfless in their desire and devotion to the school system and its students. I have also had the privilege to work beside and on the same team with one of the most amazing school superintendents in the state. His passion for thinking outside the box and working towards our students having the best opportunity to succeed is what guides him. Together, I’m proud of the work we accomplished and I’m thankful to have played a small part.

With that being said, I committed to doing what is best for the students and Faculty of the Pike School System. I always put them first in everything I did. With that, I feel I need to step aside at this point during my time. I do not want to be a distraction to my fellow board members as I work through some personal things. I hereby resign my positions with the Pike County School Board. I will forever be thankful for the opportunity to serve and for the friendships made. I pray for the continued success of the Pike County School System.

Sincerely,
Gregory R. Edge
Pike County School Board
District 1”
