Flashback: Promise Place Hosts Law Enforcement Appreciation Luncheon

ZEBULON - Promise Place hosted a Law Enforcement Appreciation Luncheon for Pike and Upson counties February 5th, 2015, to show our gratitude for all they do for victims of domestic violence. Pictured are Lynn Vickers, Promise Place Board Member; Chief Jonathan Hemphill-Zebulon PD; Sheriff Dan Kilgore-Upson County Sheriff’s Office; Sheriff Jimmy Thomas-Pike County Sheriff’s Office; Vanessa Wilkins, Promise Place Executive Director; Tammy Bradberry, Promise Place Senior Legal Advocate; and Chief Dan Greathouse-Thomaston PD.

Collaboration between Law Enforcement and local domestic violence programs is an important component to victim safety as evidenced by the 2013 Georgia Fatality Review. Out of the domestic violence fatalities in Georgia, 76% of the victims had contact with law enforcement while only 16% had contact with a local domestic violence program. Pike and Upson county law enforcement are working to bridge that gap right here in our communities. Georgia is currently ranked 9th in the nation for the rate at which women are killed by men.
