Pike County Parks & Recreation Authority Makes Some Difficult Decisions
By Editor Becky Watts

ZEBULON - The Pike County Parks & Recreation Authority Board met on Thursday night in order to make some very difficult decisions on recreational sports in our community. Decisions were made about spring sports, the Soccer Complex Walking Track, when to reopen the complex, and the 2020 Pride of Pike Independence Day Celebration.

After much deliberation by board members, the spring baseball/softball season has been cancelled due to the threat of COVID-19. However, the current plan is to offer a fall baseball, softball, and football season. The current spring teams will be kept together for the fall season, and the uniforms will remain the same.

For those who would like to inquire about a refund or credit in regard to an already paid spring registration fee, details are listed below in the letter from Director Kevin Teate. If you do not email Director Teate at kteate@pikecoga.com by June 15 with the name on your account, player's name, sport and age division, the amount that has been paid will be considered as a donation to PCPRA. "Even though we have incurred some costs for the spring season, the board has decided to offer a full refund or credit to each family, if so selected," said Director Teate in the press release.

The Soccer Complex Walking Track will reopen Monday, May 18. However, the soccer complex restrooms, playground, and the rest of the Parks & Recreation Complex will remain closed for now. Guidelines for social distancing are still required along with all other requirements from Governor Kemp's Executive Orders.

Plans are in the works to reopen the Parks & Recreation Complex on June 1 unless there is a prohibition from Governor Kemp or some other government authority.

The 2020 Pride of Pike Independence Day Celebration has been cancelled due to COVID-19.

If you have any questions, please contact Director Teate by email at kteate@pikecoga.com or by phone at 770-567-2027.

The letter is posted in its entirety below.

Dear PCPRA Sports Families,

As 2020 began I don't think anybody could have forecasted the event that has taken place over the past 2-3 months. The Covid 19 pandemic has certainly affected each of us in someway. History has now been made and the way we live our lives has been changed. One part of our lives, recreational sports, has also been affected.

As you may know the Pike County Parks & Recreation Authority Board met yesterday evening to decide to move forward with the spring baseball/softball season or to cancel this season. After careful consideration and much discussion the board decided to cancel the spring baseball/softball season. The board understands how important recreational sports are and how this decision will affect each of our sports families. However, given the current situation that we are in, the board felt that it was best to cancel.

So, where do we go from here? Our current plan is to offer a fall baseball, softball and football season. The spring baseball/softball teams will be kept together for the fall season using the current uniforms that you were issued for the spring season. More details and information on the fall season will be sent in the coming days.

Some of you have asked about a refund or a credit. We will be offering three options regarding your spring registration fee. They are as follows:

• Request a full credit for a future sports season. ($135.00 for all divisions, except 4U baseball - $80.00)
• Request a full refund. ($135.00 for all divisions, except 4U baseball - $80.00)
• Donate the registration fee to PCPRA.

You must make your selection known by replying to this email or by emailing me directly at kteate@pikecoga.com by June 15. In your reply include the name on your account, player's name, sport and age division. If you do not reply by June 15, we will consider your registration fee as a donation to PCPRA. Even though we have incurred some costs for the spring season, the board has decided to offer a full refund or credit to each family, if so selected.

Other News: The Soccer Complex Walking Track will reopen Monday, May 18. The soccer complex restrooms and playground, as well as the remainder of the parks & recreation complex will remain closed. Social Distancing guidelines and all other requirements of the governor's executive order will be in effect.

On Monday, June 1 the plan is to reopen the parks & recreation complex, unless an executive order from the governor or other government authority prohibits us from doing so.

2020 Pride of Pike Independence Day Celebration has been cancelled. The PCPRA Board felt that it is best to cancel the event for this year.

If you have any questions please contact me by email at kteate@pikecoga.com or by phone at 770-567-2027. We look forward to when this is all behind us and we are back to participating in recreational sports. Stay safe & well.

Respectfully,
Kevin Teate
Director
