Hope 4 Tomorrow Optimist Club of Pike County Celebrates the Past Year

ZEBULON - On February 4th, Hope 4 Tomorrow Optimist Club of Pike County, Optimist International and all our fellow Optimist members around the world celebrated Optimist Day. Optimist Day is way our members show our pride and optimism within our community and belonging to such an amazing organization.

Our Optimist Club is celebrating by celebrating our amazing members and those members of our community who have shared their appreciation for our clubs. On October 10th after celebrating our 3rd anniversary and start of another Optimist year, our club awarded our Secretary/Treasurer Vanessa Clemmons as our Optimist Member of the Year for keeping us all informed and on track with our responsibility as a Club through the pandemic. Vanessa was quoted in saying, “It was great honor and privilege to be acknowledge in that way from my fellow Optimist members.”

Our club also awarded Pastor Timothy Starks with our Community Member of the Year Award because of the great work he along with his church Mt. Nebo Baptist Church fed our Pike County Family during the pandemic with 10,000 prepackaged food during a 4-month span, but a total of 30,200 to over 30 cities and over 130 churches in the state of Georgia. Pastor Starks was quoted for giving “A special thank you to Hope 4 Tomorrow Optimist Club and Pike County for allowing him and the Mount Nebo family the opportunity to serve. Through God's favor wonderful people were fed during the pandemic and that what it means to serve this present age.”

Our Optimist Club also was blessed to hear from our past Essay/Oratorical Winners Ellie Busby and Sara Jones who gave their appreciation for having the opportunity to represent the Pike County Optimist Club. Sara Jones was quoted for saying, “I really enjoyed my time representing the Pike County Optimist Club. It was a great opportunity that gave me valuable experience in not only essay writing but also public speaking outside of school functions.” Ellie was quoted for saying, "I enjoyed participating in the Optimist Club essay contest because of the opportunity to make a difference in my community.” They both also are competing this year and encourage their fellow peers at the school to take part too.

Our club is now getting ready to do our first annual Cornhole Tournament on March 20 at Zebulon City Park from 11a.m. - 4p.m. The fee for teams is $30 so we are looking for teams and vendors to sign up. Give Rufus Clemmons a call at 678-544-1218 or Brad Wilson 678-873-8421 for more information. We will be giving out a cash prize out for the 1st and 2nd place winner. We also will be following CDC guidelines in regards to Covid-19.
