ZEBULON - “Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.” This is the oath that athletes in the Special Olympics say each year before they compete. This year was no different for the ninth annual Special Olympics here in Pike County that were held on May 4, 2016.
A gathering of friends, family, and classmates. The lining of the track by those who have come down to watch the opening ceremony and cheer on the athletes for the day. The running of the torch. The proud smiles as students come down the track with their classes and show off their class banners. The fun of competition and the end of a day in which all of these athletes did their very best in each event.
A day of sunshine, fun, competition and community involvement made this a memorable event for everyone. Thanks to all who volunteered, donated food and your time, and those who came out to support our young athletes!
