An Update on Pike County's Very Own Frisbee Dog Team

Mark Muir and his high flying Frisbee/Disc Catching dogs travelled to northern Ohio this past weekend to try to secure their third qualifying spots for a third frisbee dog organization World Championship. It's been a big year for Mark Muir and his Georgia Irish Disc Dogs.

Mark had previously qualified all four of his dogs for the Skyhoundz Disc Dog World Championships that will be held this fall in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He also qualified Rocket for the USDDN World Disc Dog Championships in April. This past weekend, Mark qualified Rocket and Gipper for the Ashley Whippet World Championships which will be held in Missouri in October.

Mark said that he was told that possibly in the long history of the sport, no dog has ever at the same time not only qualified but won the qualifiers too. Well, that is exactly what Rocket and Mark did this weekend when they completed this trifecta. "Rocket just puts on his hard helmet and packs a lunch and punches a time card and gets it done weekend after weekend," Mark said.

Mark and Rocket competed in the Purina Incredible dog challenge in Atlanta earlier this year. After the competition, organizers decided to do a fan vote which will help determine who will get an invitation to the National Finals which will be held in October of this year. Readers can vote once a day for Rocket and Mark by clicking here. The contest goes until July 24, 2011. "Rocket and I would love your support," Mark said.

What is Mark and his amazing dogs doing for the rest of the year? Well... they are going all over the world and even performing locally during this time. And for those who have seen Mark Muir and the Georgia Irish Disc Dogs at the Rock Ranch or at Pike County High School athletic events or at the Pike County Relay for Life, the show is absolutely worth seeing!

Mark says that he hopes to entertain at other Pike County High School athletic events. He has even been discussing doing some different types of speeches and talks with his dogs for local students. Mark is also working on putting in a training field at his house on West Road in Pike County and says, "Thank you to Pike County for all your support!" He is so proud of Pike County that after over two years of living here, he proudly lets people know that Georgia Irish Disc Dogs call Pike County HOME!
