Senator-Designate Kelly Loeffler Named to Three Prominent Senate Committees

ATLANTA - U.S. Senator-designate Kelly Loeffler, R-Ga., will join three prominent committees in the Senate giving the conservative businesswoman a seat at the table to champion Georgia farmers, support our veterans, and lower healthcare costs for American families.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., announced today that Loeffler will join the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, the Senate Committee on Veterans' Affairs, and the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions after she is sworn in early next year.

"Georgia has a proud tradition of sending outstanding public servants to the U.S. Senate, and Kelly Loeffler has the character, talent, and experience to carry on this legacy," said McConnell. "Georgians are especially fortunate that their next senator will be fighting for them as a member of these important committees."

Agriculture is Georgia's oldest and largest industry. The Senate Agriculture Committee has an important role in overseeing agricultural policies impacting American farmers and producers.

"Growing up on the family farm, I understand the vital importance of agriculture to our state, and the issues facing rural communities and local businesses firsthand. On the Senate Agriculture Committee, I will stand with our farmers, advance pro-growth policies, and proudly promote our Georgia Grown products. I will work around the clock to keep America growing."

The Senate Committee on Veterans' Affairs has oversight of the second-largest federal department - the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Georgia is home to nearly 700,000 veterans as well as nine military installations representing each branch of the armed services.

"As the daughter and granddaughter of two very special veterans, I am honored to serve our nation's heroes on the Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee," Loeffler said. "I look forward to carrying on Johnny Isakson's strong commitment to our veterans and their families. We will treat these men and women with the respect and dignity they rightfully deserve.

The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions committee has jurisdiction over three issues very important to Georgia families: health, education and employment.

"As a member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, I will work with President Trump and my colleagues to lower healthcare costs for American families," said Loeffler. "We will enhance access to quality care and do our part to ensure a healthier future for all Americans.

"Additionally, Georgia is home to some of the finest educational institutions in the world. I will partner with state leaders to meet the needs of our students -- from early to post-secondary - and provide the best possible education for generations to come."
