Summer Reading Isn't Just for Kids!

ZEBULON - Although most folks think of the summer reading program as being just for children, the J. Joel Edwards Public Library chooses not to exclude adults from the adventure. The theme for the adult program this year is Exercise Your Mind – READ!

Each time adults check out books at the library, they may register to win a bag of prizes by answering a champion-themed question and placing their response in the box at the check-out desk. At the end of the week, a winner is drawn from the correct answers to become the Champion of the Week.

Manager Rosemary Bunn reminds patrons, “We ask the same question all week, so if you check out books several times a day, you can really stuff the ballot box.”

Each Monday the library begins with a new question and a new prize bag. Several local businesses have donated to the prize package, including Concord Café, City Pharmacy, Storyteller’s Antiques, and A Novel Experience, and Hallmark (Griffin).

Besides the Champion of the Week contest, the library has also planned some Thursday evening programs for adults or families. Coming soon is an author presentations and book signing by Gwen Roland (July 21) and John Riley will be back on July 28 with his collection of harp guitars.

To stay apprised of all library events, follow the J. Joel Edwards Public Library on Facebook. “Or better yet,” says library assistant Emily Evans, “stop by the library, check out some books or movies, and take a look at the very full calendar.”
