Georgia Public Library System Offers Free E-Card to Access Digital Resources

ZEBULON - Recently, the Georgia Public Library System (GPLS) launched its new online self-registration that will enable all Georgia residents to receive access to e-resources.

“During these uncertain times,” says library manager Rosemary Bunn, “when in-person services are being limited, it is more important than ever that we offer easy access to digital services to all our patrons. One particular goal we have at the J. Joel Edwards Public Library is to see that all of our Pike County students have free digital cards.”

These e-cards will provide patrons with all the digital services afforded to those with a full PINES card. They will have access to invaluable resources such as e-books and audiobooks through RBdigital (until Oct. 1, when GPLS switches to the Libby app), ERead Kids, and Galileo with its multitude of databases, including Tumblebooks.

Patrons may apply for the digital card online at gapines.org. In the black bar, click on Apply for a PINES Library Card. Registration does require a current address and driver’s license i.d. Parents may apply for a separate digital card for each child. “The beauty of this card,” explains Bunn, “is that every child can have free access to the abundance of reading through these online services, eliminating the fear of overdue fees or lost or damaged materials. It’s a win/win.”

To help launch this program, the library will be setting up “pop-up” library services throughout Pike County over the next few weeks. Staff will be available to assist with the online registrations, updating existing cards and issuing new ones, from 3PM-6PM at the following locations: Tues., Sept. 22, at the Molena City Hall; Thurs., Sept. 24, at the Williamson Library; and Tues., Sept. 29, at the Meansville City Hall. Registrants will need to bring a driver’s license i.d. with current address information. All juveniles must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

For more information on digital services, call the library at 770-567-2014 or follow the J. Joel Edwards Public Library on Facebook.
