Pike County Kiwanis Presents Check to the J. Joel Edwards Public Library

ZEBULON - Pike County Kiwanis representative Peter Potter recently presented the J. Joel Edwards Public Library with a check for $500 to help fund the library’s ever-growing summer reading program. Manager Rosemary Bunn reports that in the past two years the number of participants in the program has more than quadrupled, increasing the library’s need for supplemental funding.

Each Monday library assistant Emily Evans provides a program for teens, with 20 currently enrolled. On Tuesdays, Kim Mason provides story time for preschool children, with an average of 35 in attendance. Every Thursday a program for ages 6-12 is provided in a meeting room filled to capacity.

The library also provides some Thursday evening programs for families and adults. In the coming weeks patrons can listen to presentations on such topics as identity theft and phone scams and also enjoy the award-winning sounds of the Due South Band.

Manager Bunn and the library board thank the Kiwanis for their financial contribution. “Our summer reading theme this year focuses on heroes,” says Bunn. “Those who support the library in its quest to aid the community are, indeed, heroes.”

For more information on library events and offering, visit the library during regular business hours: MWF 10-5, TTh 10-7, and Saturdays 10-3.
