Local Scout Troup Installs Bird Houses and Feeders at the Zebulon Library

ZEBULON - On Saturday, June 11, the J. Joel Edwards Public Library was treated to a garden upgrade, compliments of local scouts.

Spearheading the project was Carmine Masi (14) of Concord Troup 107 and Den Chief of Pack 103. Carmine organized the building and installation of 2 new bird feeders and 3 bird houses, plus shepherd’s rods to hold the 3 hummingbird feeders donated earlier by the Friends of the J. Joel Edwards Public Library.

The houses and feeders were placed by the windows on the front and the north end of the library. Patrons may now enjoy a peaceful, idyllic setting as they sit and read by the tinted windows.

“This has been a vision of mine for many years,” said Library Manager, Rosemary Bunn. “Carmine heard of this wish in this winter and by summer, the project was completed.”

Carmine has been coming to the library since 2013, when his family first moved to Pike County. He is an avid reader, often suggesting new titles to Ms. Rosemary.

“I chose to do this project,” he said, “because it would better the community and help the library, (and also because I have a special place in my heart for Ms. Rosemary.)”
