Summer Reading Program Begins May 28 at the J. Joel Edwards Library

ZEBULON - With summer right around the corner, the J. Joel Edwards Public Library announces its exciting summer program, intended to appeal to all ages.

The theme for children through age 12 is On Your Mark, Get Set – READ! for teens Get in the Game – READ! and for adults Exercise Your Mind.

Preschool story time for ages 5 and under will be held every Tuesday at 11:00. Children’s coordinator Kim Mason says she will present stories, activities, and crafts specifically designed the younger crowd.

Programs for ages 6-12 will be held every Thursday at 1:00, with an emphasis on various activities that encourage readers to also get up and get moving. Library manager Rosemary Bunn reveals, “We are proud to have the Pike County recreation department kick off the first school-age program on June 2.”

The teen programs are held on Mondays at 1:00 and will also include games and activities under the expert guidance of library assistant Emily Evans. At the first meeting, June 6, teens will create a group pastel art piece.

The adults deserve some rewards this summer, too, so the library has planned Thursday evening special events each month, including several author visits and book signings. In addition, the library will continue its tradition of weekly prize drawings with its Champion of the Week award.

Registration for children and teens begins Saturday, May 28, at the library, including reading and art class with author Jose Lucio at 1:00. All programs and activities are free and open to the public. For more information visit the library during regular business hours: MWF 10-5, TTh 10-7, and Sat. 10-3.
