Children's Author and Illustrator Jose Lucio to Visit the J. Joel Edwards Library

ZEBULON - The J. Joel Edwards Public Library is pleased to host children’s author and illustrator Jose Lucio on Saturday, May 28, at 1:00. Lucio will read his latest book, Heave Ho!, and present a workshop in which the participants will learn to draw the characters from the book.

According to Shel Silverstein, “If you’re a bird, be an early bird. If you’re a worm, sleep late.” But what happens when a worm doesn’t want to be breakfast for the early bird?

Lucio explores this theme in his children’s book, Heave Ho! The worm, with help from his subterranean friends, resists being tugged from the earth while the bird, assisted by a variety of other animals, holds his ground. A tug-of-war ensues. Who will win?

“When we first met Jose a couple of years ago at the Savannah Children’s Book Festival, we were so impressed with his enthusiasm and creativity that we were determined to find a way to share him with Pike County,” said library assistant Emily Evans. “We are looking forward to having him kick off our summer reading program in style.”

Lucio’s presentation is free and open to the public. His book will also be available for purchase that day, while supplies last.

All day on Saturday the 28th children and teens may register for the summer reading programs. Throughout June and July, teen programs will be held at 1:00 each Monday, preschool programs at 11:00 on Tuesdays, programs for ages 6-12 will be at 1:00 on Thursdays, and adult/family programs will be held on most Thursday evenings. The library will continue with its regularly-scheduled Saturday classes, but substituting a free movie on the fourth Saturday of each month.
