ZEBULON - During the month of March, the J. Joel Edwards Public Library will celebrate Read Across America month with schools and libraries across the country. During the nation’s largest celebration of literacy, children in Pike County will be invited to join the library in a month-long reading challenge to celebrate the importance of reading and the birthday of one of the most prolific children’s authors in American history, Dr. Seuss.
Children grades K-5 are invited to stop by the library and pick up a reading log that will be used to keep track of each hour spent reading, including e-books and listening to audiobooks. For every five hours read, participants can stop by the library and pick up an awesome Seuss-inspired prize with the goal of reading 15 hours total throughout the month. Reading logs can also be found on the library’s Facebook page and printed off at home. Participants should turn completed logs into the library by 5:00 PM on Wednesday, March 31st.
The library will also host two Take & Make craft kits, March 3rd and 17th, to go along with Read Across America month and will also host a coordinating Facebook virtual event, Cooking with Kids, on March 30th at 4:00 PM.
