Pike American Legion to Sponsor 5K/10K Fun Run/Walk Fundraiser in Williamson

WILLIAMSON - On Saturday, 2 April 2022, the Pike County American Legion Post 197 will host a 5K/10K Fun Run/Walk fundraiser to be held in conjunction with the Williamson Wisteria Festival. This is also a Pike County Bicentennial Event.

The start window is between 7:30 and 10:00 am, and there is a choice between a 5K (3.1 miles) and a 10K (6.2 miles) course. Early registration fee is $25, and the deadline is 26 March 2022. Late and day-of registration is $35. Everyone who registers receives an event T-shirt.

The T-shirt design will have a Wisteria Festival – American Legion design as well as the Pike County Bicentennial Logo. Walkers and runners are encouraged to check out the Williamson Wisteria Fest when they complete the course.

Parking will be Williamson Wisteria Festival designated parking areas. The start will be at the American Legion booth on the east side of the fitness trail within Benson Hilley Park on Williamson-Zebulon Road.

This event is Post 197’s third Run/Walk in Williamson and its 14th overall in Pike County. The Run/Walk is a fundraising event to benefit our American Legion Veteran and Community programs while at the same time providing a healthy event for the community.

The events rotate among the five cities of Pike County. By participating in each of the city events, one can conduct the Tour de Pike through traveling to and participating in the scenic courses. If you are an avid runner, you can use this event as an interesting workout for your running program. We take pride in providing scenic courses.

For those of you who have attended a previous Run/Walks in the Williamson, the two courses are generally flat and use city streets and walking paths, and county secondary paved roads. The 5K goes through the streets of the City of Williamson and Ashley Glen housing area, and uses a section of the old Williamson to Zebulon rail road bed. The 10K course consists of the 5K and then uses the roads and taxiways of Eagles Landing.

The rest area is the Williamson Fire Station #6 on the corner of Reidsboro and Williamson-Zebulon Roads. There are mile markers for those timing themselves. Use of strollers should not be a mobility problem and having dogs on leashes is fine.

Individual persons or participants can help sponsor the event with a donation of $50. The donation allows you to add a deceased Veteran to be listed on the back of the T-shirt.
