Pike County American Legion Post 197 to Hold 5K/10K - August 10, 2019

ZEBULON - The next 5K/10K Fun Run/Walk Honoring Our KIA will be conducted on 10 August 2019 in and around the City of Williamson. The start of the window is 7:30 a.m. and goes until 10:00. "Due to being in August, I highly recommend coming early, so that you can begin the courses at 7:30 and beat the heat," said Commander Bryan Richardson.

Williamson is the tenth Run/Walk and final event of our 2nd Pike County Circuit of its five cities. Proceeds will go toward the continuance of this year’s Pike County Memorial Annex Induction Ceremonies as well as supporting our Veteran and Community programs.

The courses have changed slightly from when we last conducted this event on 27 August 2017. There are paved roads and grassy lanes; as well as the addition of a portion of the old Zebulon to Williamson railroad bed which will be mostly in the shade and off the main roads. There is one area on Watering Hole Pass which is on the 10K course that does have some short hills. There are no rocky dirt roads.

Most of you will enjoy the courses through the City of Williamson, Ashley Glen development, and the beautiful Eagle’s Landing (might see a plane or two take off or land). See farm animals as you pass through the Fry Farm. You won’t find too many 5K and 10K courses that are scenic as this one.

Cold water will be at the rest areas and registration area as well as with our roving EMT vehicle. SGT Bart Brock, EMT will be checking everyone on the course. He will have cold water on board. Refreshments will be available at the start and finish. This activity can be a wholesome family event or an individual healthy workout.

The Run/Walk T-shirt design will feature Williamson’s red caboose. "If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at 678-764-2411 or email me at rich5060@bellsouth.net," said Richardson. "Whether you can make it or not, please help spread the word!"
