Pike County American Legion Post 197 to Hold 5K/10K - August 11, 2018

ZEBULON - The next Pike County American Legion Post 197 5K/10K Run/Walk Honoring Our Veterans will be held in Concord on Saturday, 11 August 2018. This event is Post 197’s second Run/Walk in Concord and our eighth overall in Pike County. The event resembles the German Volksmarch type of activity. There is a start window between 7:30 to 11:00 am, and a choice between a 5K (3.1 miles) and a 10K (6.2 miles) course. Photo of the course is below this article.

Early registration fee is $25, and the deadline is 4 August 2018. Late and day-of registration is $35. Everyone who registers receives an event T-shirt.

The Run/Walk is a charity event to benefit our Veterans while at the same time providing a healthy event for the community. This year’s proceeds will help offset the cost of the 1 December 2018, Pike County Memorial Induction Ceremony where we will be inducting all ten WWI names listed on the Pike County Veterans Monument. The Induction Ceremony is part of the 100th anniversary of the end of WWI activities.

Runners can use this event as an interesting workout for their running program. Courses are generally flat with paved and dirt roads, and farm roads and trails. For those of you who attended the last Concord event, the course loops will be conducted in reverse. So you will see the scenery from a different perspective this time. See downtown Concord, and for the 10K participants, they will also see the old Williamson Train Deport that was moved to Diastoles Farm. We also provide mile markers for those serious runners, and for those who just want to know “How much further?” and “Are we there yet?” There are no restrictions on strollers and dogs on leashes.

Fundraiser Purpose

This year’s proceeds will help off-set the cost of the 1 December 2018, Pike County Memorial Annex Induction Ceremony where we will be inducting all ten World War I names listed on the Pike County Veterans Monument. This is part of the 100th anniversary of the end of First World War.

The Memorial Annex honors Pike County fallen heroes, provides Pike County history, as well as detailed accounts of America’s Wars since World War I. The Pike County American Legion Family 197 will host this year’s event to be held on 1 Dec 2018.
