Pike County American Legion 5/10K Run/Walk for Veterans

CONCORD - The Pike County American Legion Family had scheduled its third 5K/10K Run/Walk fund raiser on January 21, 2017. This is a fund raiser to help support our local Veterans. However, due to a tornado watch and heavy rains, the event was terminated. In order to offer the opportunity to run or walk these scenic courses, the event has been rescheduled for Saturday, February 11, 2017.

Again, there is a choice between a 5K and a 10K course starting at the Concord Gazebo to the front left of the Concord Strickland Building in downtown Concord, Georgia. Depending on the course chosen, participants will enjoy sights of historic Concord, old Norfolk-Southern railroad bed, scenic homes, and the old Williamson Train Depot (Located on Diastole Farms) and vistas of Pike County country roads, countryside, and farm activity. Participants can either walk, run, or walk/run either of the courses.

It is not a race; there is no mass start. Participants can arrive and start at their leisure any time between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Each course will be marked and will have rest areas where participants will get their card stamped and can partake in assorted refreshments to help them through the course. These Run/Walks are great family events or individual fitness workouts.

Those who have pre-registered for the January 21 event can show up, check in, and take off. You all are good. Early pre-registration for the February 11 event is $25. Late registration is $35 after February 4, 2017 and day of event. All who register will get a nice looking event T-shirt and free event snacks and beverages. Regardless of registration, each participant is guaranteed a T-shirt. Due to late registration, T-shirt may not be available at the day of the event; however, one will be mailed. So, register early and wear your T-shirt on your run/walk. Those who registered, but could not attend, a T-shirt will be mailed.

Registration forms can be obtained by clicking here. Instructions for filling out the Registration Form are on the form itself. Contact the Post at pikepost197@gmail.com for any specific questions.

For interested event volunteers, if you would like to help at the event, please contact the Post using the Post email. We also have a special discount for T-shirts for volunteers.

The sponsors for the January 21 event are the same sponsors for the February 11 event. Sponsor names will be on the back of the February 11 T-shirt.

The Pike County American Legion Family hopes that you will consider participating is this family or individual event. Help make this a great event and continue to pave the way for additional Run/Walks around Pike County. Order of future America Legion Run/Walk events are: Molina, Williamson, Zebulon, Meansville, and Concord. If you have not figured it out, you can conduct a “Tour de Pike” participating at each of the 5 major Pike County cities.
