ZEBULON - Are you looking for a way to serve others in our community? Find out more about Kiwanis of Pike and learn how you can help others in our community.

Kiwanis of Pike County is a community service organization that meets every Thursday at noon at the Concord Café. There are around 40 members including three original members who are still a part of the organization: Walker Chandler, Red Edwards, and John Davidson. George Norris has been a member since 1992. And there is always room for one more!

Some of their biggest fundraisers of late have been Tour de Pike with bike riders participating locally as well as from out of state, Santa for a Senior where Seniors participating in Meals on Wheels receive a visit and gifts, serving a meal to participants and guests of the Special Olympics in past years and Sensory Sensations this year, and other worthy causes like handing out water at the Pride of Pike fireworks celebration, the bi-monthly Blood Drives, the annual Back to School Bash, and the Ferst Foundation. “We raise money to give it away,” said Kiwanis President Rebekah Betsill Twilley.

And they help out with a whole lot more than you may realize like helping out with the Bringing Up Grades (BUG) program, building garden beds for the elementary school, providing 90 Kinder Mats for the Pre-K, helping the Boy Scouts with needed camping equipment, helping pay for two 4H Camp Scholarships, donating $50 to the Senior Center to help for the costs of a senior movie day, donating $100 to the Pike County High Cross Country Team to help with regional food meet costs, providing a $1,000 Gordon State College Scholarship, and raising funds for a $1,000 scholarship for the Slow Exposures Children’s Show to support student photographers.

When groups in our community need help, Kiwanis of Pike County is there to help out. They raise money and put it back into our community. “It’s easy to work with people you like,” said Mrs. Twilley.

Kiwanis of Pike County’s Mission Statement is very simple: “We are here to serve the children of Pike County. That is what we do. We also serve others at risk in the community by partnering with organizations that serve at-risk citizens.”
