Arrest Made in Identity Theft Case

ZEBULON - Pike County Sheriff’s Office Investigators travelled to Newton and Rockdale counties yesterday to arrest Jennifer Johnson, 35 years of age, from Covington.

A citizen of Pike County had reported being the victim of identity theft in which Johnson had made purchases using the victim's identity and attempted to open various lines of credit. Investigators were able to track down Johnson and use store camera footage to identify her as the suspect.

Numerous false drivers licenses and passport identification cards were found on Johnson at the time of her arrest. These documents are believed to be from additional identity theft victims and investigators are working to notify the appropriate jurisdictions for possible additional charges.

Johnson was also wanted out of Cherokee County for identity theft. She is currently in the Pike County jail awaiting a bond hearing and her charges will include identity theft and two counts of attempted identity theft.

We would like to remind citizens to keep a frequent check on your credit report for unauthorized accounts as identity theft is one of the most frequently reported crimes.
