ZEBULON - Pike County Hog Team members competed in the Mid-Ga Preview and brought home many awards from two individual shows this weekend with one on Friday and one on Saturday!
"These students worked extremely hard, survived the cold dreary weather, and represented Pike County well!" said Animal Science Teacher and FFA Advisor Shannon Bartlett. "These scores include our Middle School, High School, and 4H members for Pike County!"
Showmanship:
Showmanship classes in a market hog show judge how well the exhibitor presents, handles, and showcases their hog, not the animal itself, highlighting the student’s skill, control, and professionalism in the ring.
Friday's placings:
Junior Division-
James Smith (MS) 6th Overall
Will Matthews (4H) 2nd Overall
Senior Division-
Anslee McLendon (HS) second in her heat, 5th overall
Annikah Self (HS) third in her heat, and 3rd Overall
Kaden Mitchell (4H) was first in his heat and 1st Overall
Kaydie Jo Reid (HS) was 4th in her heat.
Saturday's placings:
Junior Division-
Kali Garner (MS) was first in her heat, 2nd overall
Allie Lawrence (MS) was first in her heat and 3rd overall
Senior Division-
Kaden Mitchell (4H) was first in his heat, and 1st overall
Ty Garner (HS) was 3rd in his heat, and 4th overall
Market Classes:
Market classes in a hog show evaluate the hog itself, its weight, muscling, structure, and overall market readiness, and determines how well it meets industry standards for quality meat production.
Friday's placings:
Ty Garner (HS) placed 1st in his class with his Barrow
Kaden Michell (4H) placed 1st in his class with his Barrow and 1st in his class with his Gilt, they both went back into the ring for the FINAL DRIVE where he was announced Grand Champion with his Barrow and Reserve Champion with his Gilt!
Annikah Self (HS) placed 5th with her barrow, and placed 2nd with her other barrow.
Bella Martin (HS) placed 4th in her class with her barrow.
James Smith (MS) placed 2nd in his class with his barrow.
Kali Garner (MS) placed 1st in her class with her barrow and went back to the final drive.
Amy Pohle (MS) placed 5th and 4th place with her gilts.
Allie Lawrence (MS) placed 3rd with her barrow.
Saturday's placings:
George Barrow (HS) placed 1st in her class and went on to the final drive.
Ty Garner (HS) placed 3rd with his barrow.
Kaden Mitchell (4H) placed 2nd with his gilt and 1st with his Barrow who went back to the final drive and won Grand Champion!
Kali Garner (MS) placed 1st with her barrow and went to the final drive, she also placed 2nd with her gilt.
James Smith (MS) placed 4th with his barrow.
Amy Pohle (MS) placed 3rd with her gilt.
Annikah Self (HS) placed 4th with her gilt and 3rd with her barrow.
Anslee McLendon placed 3rd with her gilt and 2nd with her barrow.

Overall placings:
For the Mid-Ga Preview, we do a point system adding up all their placings of both days. At the conclusion of the two shows we announce the Top 10 Overall Showman and Pike County had 4 out of 10 overalls!
