Health Department giving away free books, bookbags, school supplies and more at August 4 walk-in immunization event

ZEBULON - With the start of school just around the corner, the Pike County Health Department is offering a walk-in back-to-school immunization and screening clinic on Monday, Aug. 4, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

During the event, the health department will be giving away free books, bookbags, school supplies, food, door prizes and more.

Though the health department normally provides school immunizations and screenings by appointment, parents or guardians can bring children to the back-to-school clinic with no appointment needed.

State law requires any student enrolling in a Georgia public or private school for the first time to submit a Georgia Immunization Certificate (Form 3231) showing they have received the appropriate immunizations for their age (or submit a religious exemption form 2208). Rising seventh-graders and 11th-graders also have special immunization requirements.

All students entering a Georgia public school for the first time also must submit the Georgia Certificate of Vision, Hearing, Dental, and Nutrition Screening (Form 3300) to their school.

The health department or a child’s doctor can provide both the immunizations and required forms needed to enroll in school.

To make a health department appointment on other weekdays, schedule online at www.district4health.org or call (800) 847-4262.

A parent or guardian must accompany a child to a health department visit and bring their adult photo ID and the child’s insurance card. For children born outside Georgia—or if it is a child’s first visit to the health department—adults should bring the child’s shot record to ensure the health departments has the child’s complete immunization history.

Fees for immunizations and health screenings are discounted for children without health insurance. Most insurance plans and Medicaid cover these services, and a variety of insurance plans are accepted. Payments can be made with cash, Mastercard, or Visa. For more information, call (800) 847-4262.

The Pike County Health Department is located at 541 Griffin St. in Zebulon.
