A Review of Griffin Choral Arts’ "An Operatic Gala"
By Guest Columnist Jennifer Allen

GRIFFIN - As a teenager, I enjoyed classical music, a loved passed on to me by my piano teacher. As I matured and began to raise a family of my own, I began to drift from my musical roots and found myself spending less and less time enjoying good music.

As a first time attender of the Griffin Choral Arts series, I was very impressed when I recently attended "An Operatic Gala". It was my first musical concert in many years. I was looking forward to my reintroduction to fine music. I was not disappointed. (Favorite choruses from Bizet, Verdi, Donizetti, and Wagner and arias from Puccini and Dvorak are featured on this Masterworks program.)

The conductor strove to educate and introduce the audience to opera. I, along with many others in the audience, had never attended a live, full-length opera. This sampler concert, as you will, was a superb introduction.

The local talent was astounding and the music left me in awe and wanting to come back for more. I hope you will join me for some more fine music at the next concert on Cinco de Mayo!

The final concert of the season, “A CHORAL FIESTA,” will be presented on Thursday, May 5, (Cinco de Mayo!) at Griffin First United Methodist Church (1401 Maple Drive). The season concludes with choral music from around the world composed for celebrations.
