American Legion Family Post 197 Presents The Four Chaplains Program

ZEBULON - February 7, 2021 is Four Chaplains Observance Day. It is observed around our Nation and hosted by the American Legion family of organizations. One of the major programs that the Legion Family 197 conducts every year in Pike County is the Four Chaplains Program which honors the four Army Chaplains of different faiths who gave the ultimate sacrifice in aiding and comforting fellow shipmates during the German sinking of the United States Army Transport (USAT) Dorchester during WWII. This is an important historical event in our nation’s history.

This program honors the selfless sacrifices of these four Chaplains as well as provides an example of man’s love for God. It also helps educate the community with the stories of these four chaplains. The four Army Chaplains to be honored are Reverend George Fox, Rabbi Alexander Goode, Reverend Clark Poling, and Father John Washington.

"Based on the value to our community and despite the Corona Virus pandemic, the Legion Family 197 thought it important to continue the annual hosting of a Four Chaplains Program," said Commander Bryan Richardson. "We decided to minimize participation to just the program participants and video tape this year’s program along with added visual effects. We believe you will truly enjoy viewing this program at your own leisure and in the safety from the pandemic in your own home."

"If this is your first time or as a regular attendee over the years, you will enjoy the program," said Richardson.
