Want to Help Flood Victims in Lousiana? Here Is An Opportunity!

BARNESVILLE - Barnesville Church of the Nazarene is currently collecting items to be delivered to the flood victims in Louisiana. You may bring your items to the church Monday through Thursday from 9 am to 1 pm or bring items with you on any given Sunday morning, Sunday evening or Wednesday evening service.

Here is a list of items that are needed. The list contains clean up items, school items, and comfort items for those who may have lost everything that they own to the flooding.

Bottled water; bleach; disinfectant; gloves; sponges; Windex; goggles; masks; medium-size bottle of shampoo; bar soap; medium toothpaste; toothbrushes; band aids; fingernail clippers; sturdy hair comb; hand towels; pocket-sized packages of facial tissues; Beanie Baby-sized stuffed toy; composition notebooks (such as Mead brand), (No spiral-bound notebooks); #2 pencils (10-12 pack); black pens (10-12 pack); pink erasers 2-3" long; rulers (6" or 12" with metric measurements); package of colored pencils (12-15); blunt-nosed scissors; hand-held pencil sharpener.

Other items that have been suggested and will be accepted include diapers, formula, and wipes. If you have suggestions for other items that are not on the list like pet food, feel free to bring that too.

Jenilee Hortman, our Missions Coordinator, is in the process of making a connection with a church or outreach center in Baton Rouge so that items can be distributed to those who need them as quickly as possible.

Two members from Barnesville Church of the Nazarene, Jenilee Hortman and Denise Chute, made a trip to West Virginia to deliver Buckets of Compassion not too long ago. There was massive flooding there where 1,500 houses and 300 businesses were complete losses because had no insurance because they were not in a flood zone.

At this point, the church is collecting items for at least the next two weeks and will make a trip to Louisiana shortly after that.

Pastor Kevin Thomas told me today by phone that the church appreciates help from the community in this and that people are already starting to call the church to ask how they can help!

Barnesville Church of the Nazarene is located at 744 Veterans Parkway in Barnesville beside the railroad tracks at the intersection of Thomaston Street and Hwy. 341. The number to the church office is 770-358-1314. www.barnesvillenazarene.com.
