Family Loses Home to Fire

ZEBULON - On Monday, August 4 around 6:24 p.m., the Pike County Fire Department responded to a fire call at 650 Rockbridge Farm off of Hollonville Road.

Family members reported leaving the house around 6:05 p.m. A short time after they left the house, the homeowner’s niece and a friend saw smoke coming from the roof from where they were fishing in a lake located behind the home.

They went running to the house and saw one area of the roof in flames. The niece called 911, the homeowners, and they were both banging on the doors of the home to ensure that no one was home.

Anita Neath spoke on behalf of the Pike County Fire Department and advised that there was an amazing turnout of personnel from seven stations including four tankers, four engines, and the ladder truck. She also advised that the Fire Department set up a turbo draft from the lake behind the house with and tankers then pooled that water into a dump tank (somewhat like a swimming pool in front of the truck pictured below) and continued to go back and refill the dump tank. The water was run to the engines on the scene by a hose that enabled them to fight the fire.

Pike County volunteer firefighters remained on the scene to extinguish hot spots until 11:30 p.m. The house was a total loss.
