Pike County Fire Department Responds to Fires

ZEBULON - The Pike County Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire Tuesday, July 21 on Reidsboro Rd. Flames and smoke were showing from a corner roof area on arrival.

The cause of the fire was a lightning strike which caused an electrical arc between two roof lines. There was minor fire damage but the fire had extended into the attic causing charring in the entire attic.

Water damage was extensive due to extinguishing fire in the attic areas. No one was injured. Most of their personal belongings were unharmed.

Spalding County Fire Department responded mutual aid with an engine and personnel.

Neighbor Trisha Dabbs posted a thank you to fire fighters on social media. "Thank you for your quick response to my neighbors' house fire this evening on Reidsboro Rd. It's simply not true that only chimneys are left when our fire department responds. This homeplace was saved today, albeit in need of extensive repair, and I thank you for your quick response and for saving this home which is treasured by the family."

Firefighters also responded to a hay bale fire this past Friday when a person hauling hay said that the bales caught fire as he was driving down the road. He pulled into Frank's Service Station, called for assistance, and the fire was extinguished by the Pike County Fire Department.

[Note from the Editor: The Pike County Fire Department consists of volunteers from the county who train together and are prepared to fight fires together using county trucks and equipment. Thank you to our volunteers and to the Auxilliary for ensuring that our volunteers stay hydrated and take care of themselves while fighting fires.]
