Volunteer Fire Fighters Rescue Pets from Two Recent Fires
By Editor Becky Watts

ZEBULON - It has been a busy couple of weeks for volunteer fire fighters here in Pike County. Here are two examples of our Pike County Emergency Services personnel going over and above what was called of them when they went out to a fire.

On May 7, 2015, there was a fire at a home on Mountain View Road. Several puppies were rescued and volunteer Rick Rickerson worked to revive these puppies at the scene of the fire. Photos courtesy of Anita Neath.

On Saturday, May 2, 2015, there was a kitchen fire at a residence on Gaulding Road. Fire personnel rescued 4 cats, 2 dogs, a pot bellied pig and a goldfish from the home.

All too often, we think about the structure damage and certainly the people who are involved in emergency fire situations, but pets are important to their owners too. And this kind of compassion says a lot for our department of volunteer fire fighters who work hard to protect our county by putting out fires, protecting our residents, and rescuing our treasured companions from the smoke and flames.
