Pike County Fire Department Battles Back to Back Fires on Saturday
By Editor Becky Watts

ZEBULON - There were two back to back fires in Pike County in the early morning hours of Saturday, March 25, 2017. The first fire claimed the home of a family in our community, and second was contained in the room in which it started though the room had significant smoke, heat and water damage after the fire was extinguished.

The first fire occurred shortly before 1 a.m. on Buchanan Road. Pike County Fire Department responded along with mutual aid from Spalding County Fire Department and automatic aid from Meansville Fire Department. Firefighters were on the scene approximately 4.5 hours spraying approximately 100,000 gallons to extinguish the fire.

The Hendrix family was able to escape the house after awaking to flames at the back of the home on the back porch, but the entire house was a loss including a vehicle.

There is a Go Fund Me account set up for the Hendrix Family, however, Second Baptist of Griffin is their church home and 100% of donations given through Second Baptist will be given directly to the Hendrix Family. Please make a note on the donation that it is for the Hendrix Family. More information on Second Baptist of Griffin can be found by clicking here.

Here is additional information in an update for the family. They currently have all of the clothes that they need. Their immediate need is gift cards (Visa or MasterCard) or monetary donations.

The second fire occurred just a few hours after fire fighters had returned home, but it was contained to the room of origin. There was significant smoke, heat and water damage. This fire occurred at 7:05 a.m. on Roberts Quarters Road in Concord.

Pike County Fire Department and personnel from Meansville Fire Department responded to the fire. They were on the scene for approximately 1.5 hours and used about 250 gallons of water to extinguish the fire. The homeowner advised that she awoke to smoke in the house and flames coming from the refrigerator. There was severe fire, smoke and water damage in the kitchen.

The Pike County Fire Department is composed of volunteers from all over our county who respond to fires like this. Fire fighters undergo extensive training and keep up to date on their training through the county. You can support our local fire department by buying pictures each fall as they do their annual fundraiser or simply by making a check out to the Pike County Fire Department and giving it to the person who comes to your home in the fall for the picture fundraiser.
