Pike County Fire Department Honors Volunteer Firefighters

ZEBULON - The Pike County Fire Department held its annual Christmas party and gave out awards for a job well done throughout the past year. It was also a time to relax and enjoy time with the Fire Department Family.

Juli Reeves and Maury (Mo) Morgan received the Medical Life Saving Award. Juli and Mo responded to a call for a woman in labor in her car. Juli arrived first and called for help. Mo responded to assist and they delivered the baby on scene. Click here to read the story.

Firefighter of the Year was awarded to Randy Snyder. This award is given to the firefighter who has an exemplary performance that clearly places them above his or her peers. Randy was awarded based on his willingness and desire to assist with firefighter training, EMS training, fire safety education, public relations, being a positive role model both within the department and in the community, and his dedication to the overall operations of the fire department.

Larry Gaddy received the Rookie of the Year award. The individual must have exemplary performance that clearly places the Rookie above his or her peers. The term Rookie is defined as any individual that has been involved with PCES for a period less than two years. Remarkable commitment, involvement with public education and safety events, involvement with training fellow firefighters, never ending fervor, and enthusiastic willingness to serve the citizens of Pike County are requirements that are considered for this award. Larry was awarded based on his willingness and desire to learn the ropes for basic firefighting.

First Responder of the Year award went to Juli Reeves. The individual must have exemplary performance that clearly places the First Responder of the Year above his or her peers. Sound judgment, willingness to act, calm demeanor, consistent professionalism, and care for the citizens of Pike County are considered for this award. This award is given to the First Responder who has an exemplary performance that clearly places them above his or her peers. Juli was awarded based on her willingness and desire to help respond to medical and emergency calls within our community.

The Unit Commendation Award was awarded to Anita Neath, Jeff McDonald, and Larry Gaddy who assisted in rescuing a horse that was wedged between the banks of a small creek and legs stuck in the mud up to his belly with his head stuck inside of a metal culvert pipe. Jeff Oliver was awarded as Volunteer of the Year. Jeff received recognition for his exemplary efforts in overseeing certain operations throughout the year including but not limited to the annual pump test for all pertinent apparatus.

Bill Dials was awarded with the Life Member award. Bill Dials retired this year after 30 years of service to the county. He was Fire Chief at one point too. He will be missed.
