Ferguson Selected to Serve on House Committee on Ways and Means

WASHINGTON, DC – The House Republican Steering Committee today selected Congressman Drew Ferguson (R-Ga.) to serve on the Committee on Ways and Means. The Committee on Ways and Means is the oldest committee in Congress and is the tax-writing committee in the House of Representatives. The committee has jurisdiction over all taxation, trade, tariffs and other revenue-raising measures. The appointment will be confirmed by the full House Republican Conference in the coming days.

“I am honored to be selected to serve on the House Committee on Ways and Means,” said Ferguson. “In the 115th Congress, we made huge strides to make America the most competitive place in the world to do business again with the passage of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, and I’m excited to join the Committee on Ways and Means as we keep working to build off of this success.

“I also look forward to working with Ranking Member Brady and my colleagues on the committee to promote free and open markets for American businesses and advance patient-centered reforms to rebuild our broken healthcare system. This work includes removing barriers in our current welfare system that prevent Americans from moving into the middle class and trap people in the cycle of generational poverty.

“Georgia is a national hub for so many American job creators, and I am grateful to have the opportunity to be a voice for Georgians on these critical issues.”

The Committee on Ways and Means has six subcommittees covering health, human resources, oversight, tax policy, Social Security and trade.

With this appointment, Ferguson will step down from his current committee appointments on the House Committee on the Budget, the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and the Committee on Education and the Workforce.
