Benny Eppinger Honored for His Service to the City of Zebulon
By Editor Becky Watts

ZEBULON - The late Benny Eppinger was honored for his years of service to the City of Zebulon as a member of the City Council. A section of Meansville Road was recently dedicated in his memory and declared to be Benny Eppinger Memorial Street.

As the ceremony began, Benny’s wife Luella G. Eppinger, said that Benny would be so happy with this dedication. “I know he is in heaven looking down with a smile on his face.”

Mayor Joe Walter told those who were gathered that this was the fulfillment of a promise that was made 18 to 20 years ago to honor his legacy.

Former Mayor Bobby Blalock said that Benny was no nonsense and that everyone listened when he spoke.

Council Member Claude Hollis said that he appreciated all that Benny did during his tenure on the Council.

City Attorney Rob Morton spoke on behalf of his Dad, Tom Morton, and said that this is a great day. He said thank you to the Benny’s family for Benny’s dedicated service to the City of Zebulon.

“Stated so often these days, people make promises that they don’t keep,” said Luella. “This however, was not the case with our beloved Mayor Joe Walter, the City Administrator, Larry Mitcham, and the Council of Zebulon.” She said that she was especially grateful to Claude Hollis for remembering his promise and bringing it back to the Council’s attention. ,/p>

“I’m also thankful to God for allowing me as well as our daughter Sharmanet Colbert, grandchildren and other family members to live to witness the momentous occasion.”
