Election Results - May 24, 2016

ZEBULON - These are the voting precincts in Pike County: Concord, Hollonville, Meansville, Molena, Second District, Lifsey Springs, Williamson, Zebulon, Early Voting by Mail and Early voting in Person. There may be a few provisional ballots that are cast as well. Provisional ballots need further verification by the Registrar's Office. The March 1, 2016 Presidential Preference Primary Election brought out 53.05% of Pike County's 9,548 registered voters. How did tonight go?

By the end of the night, the picture above is what the Pike County Courthouse looked like. There were people sitting on the sides, on the steps going upstairs, and spilling down the front steps to hear Don Brown read the results from each precinct.

There were people all over downtown Zebulon tonight as well as various other locations in the county who were listening to and monitoring the election results too. It was pretty cool to see so many interested in what happens during a local election!

Here are the final unofficial results from Pike County. There are 9,903 registered voters in Pike County. 3,657 cast their votes for a 36.93% turnout. There are 11 outstanding overseas ballots that have until Friday to come in the mail and be counted. Remember that number because it does factor into one of the races. Every. Single. Vote. Counts.

The top three contenders in the District 3 race for U.S. Representative Lynn Westmoreland's race are Mike Crane with 659 votes and 22.69% of the vote, Drew Ferguson with 590 votes and 20.31% of the vote, and Jim Pace with 700 votes and 24.10% of the vote. In the Democratic race, Tamarkus Cook received 80 votes and 41.45% and and Angela Pendley received 113 votes and 58.55% of the vote. Update as of 12:30 a.m. From the Secretary of State's website. Mike Crane received 26.87% of the vote with 15,343 votes and Drew Ferguson received 26.76% with 15,277 votes. They will be in the General Primary Runoff which will be held on July 26, 2016.

In the District Attorney race, Ben Coker received 2,149 votes (70.99%) of the vote, Rudjard Hayes received 382 votes (12.62%), and Cindy Manning received 496 votes (16.39%). This total will be added to totals from the other counties in the district. Update as of 12:30 a.m. From the Secretary of State's website with 3 of 4 counties reporting, Ben Coker received 46.78% and 11,389 votes, Rudjard Hayes received 27.97% and 6,809 votes, and Cindy Manning received 25.26% and 6,150. Ben Coker and Rudjard Hayes will be in the July 26 run off.

In the Clerk of Superior Court race, Incumbent Carolyn Williams is the projected winner with 1,651 votes (50.18%) over challenger Rebekah Hanson who received 1,639 votes (49.82%). This is a difference of 12 votes. There are 11 outstanding overseas votes that until Friday to come in, but those will not change the outcome of this vote. Every single votes counts.
