ZEBULON - The Pike County American Legion Post 197 is seeking a Scout who is looking for an Eagle Scout Project. The Project would be to revitalize the Pike County Veterans Memorial. Currently, the Memorial area needs to facilitate routine maintenance.
Tasks that need to be completed are: removal of old wood debris and replacing the hedge with a concrete polished wall. Replacing the existing rock with a polished concrete smooth surface, and trimming the Magnolia tree limbs hanging over the memorial area.
The Scout would lead the effort of drafting the new structure for approval, identifying sources of contractors and required materials, cost estimates, conducting contractor notification and scheduling, identifying and sourcing potential Volunteers, and coordinating a Refurbishment Ceremony.
Post 197 will coordinate all building permit requirements, soliciting community sponsors for the funding of the project, and assist with obtaining required Volunteers.
The Pike County Veterans Memorial is an iconic landmark which honors the County’s fallen military heroes and is display daily for public view. The flags on the Courthouse Square represent Pike County and when they are at half-staff, notify the public that our Nation and/or State is mourning the loss of a distinguished person or persons.
This is truly a worthy, impacting project for an Eagle Scout which will serve the County for many years. Post 197 sincerely hopes that a Scout will select this Project as his/her final Eagle Scout requirement.
A plaque will be mounted on the wall identifying the Scout and refurbishment date. A newspaper article will be submitted thanking the Scout and all the sponsors.
An interested Scout can contact Legionnaire Bryan Richardson of Post 197 at C:678-764-2611 or email address rich5060@bellsouth.net.
