BREAKING NEWS: Sheriff's Office Identifies Suspect from Altercation Last Night
Suspect Shot After Attacking Deputies with His Vehicle

CONCORD - (UPDATE 7.22.16) The investigation of the arrest pertaining to Dakota Caldwell has resulted in an additional three counts of aggravated assault on law enforcement and one count of aggravated assault. Upon reviewing all of the evidence including dash cam footage and statements from witnesses it was determined that the four charges were appropriate for the crimes committed.

A previous bond of $85,000 had been set by the Magistrate Court for the original five felonies that he had been charged with. Another bond hearing will be scheduled pertaining to the new criminal charges.

(UPDATE 7.20.16 at 2:13 p.m.) The individual that was involved in the altercation with Pike County Deputies last night is identified as Dakota Caldwell, white male, 24 years of age.

The preliminary investigation into the incident has shown the Deputies to be completely justified in their actions to defend their safety. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will continue with their inquiry into the actions surrounding the discharge of the Deputies' weapons.

Caldwell was armed with an AR-15 (semi-automatic rifle) and a semi-automatic handgun at the time of the incident. His charges include aggravated assault on law enforcement, possession of a firearm during commission of a crime and interference with government property.

Original story

At approximately 11:21 p.m. Pike County Deputies responded to a domestic situation on Concord Road. Upon arrival Deputies were informed that an individual that had been involved in the incident and had left the scene in his vehicle. The information given to deputies further stated that he was armed with a firearm.

Two Deputies located the suspect in his vehicle on Turner Road and attempted to make a traffic stop. The suspect was believed to be stopping. However, as the Deputies exited their vehicle to approach his vehicle, he accelerated and rammed the front of the patrol vehicle causing extensive damage.

At this time the suspect was observed with an AR-15 (semi-automatic rifle) in his hands and failed to comply with Deputies’ instructions. Due to the imminent threat against them, the Deputies did shoot the suspect at this time. He suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken into custody.

EMS personnel transported the suspect to Spalding Regional Hospital for treatment. He has since been released and is currently in the Pike County Jail.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called to the scene to conduct an independent investigation of the shooting.

The suspect is not being identified at this time however he faces charges of aggravated assault on law enforcement, interference with government property and possession of a firearm during commission of a crime at this time. More charges could be forthcoming as Investigators continue to look into this incident.

The Deputies were not injured.
