THOMASTON - West McIntosh Road is scheduled to reopen Tuesday, September 19 after the contractor completed the bridge over the Flint River early. Beginning September 29 of last year, drivers had to utilize an off-site detour.
The contractor spent Monday, cleaning the shoulders and travel lanes of debris.
The project is located east of Brooks at the Fayette/Spalding county line and replaced the previously existing bridge built in 1950. The bridge enhancements increase load capacity, improved structural integrity and eliminated posted weight restrictions.
The contractor was E.R. Snell and the construction contract amount was $3.1 million.
