Middle School Cross Country Competes at Strong Rock

ZEBULON - The middle school cross teams traveled to Locus Grove to compete in the Strong Rock Cross Country Invitational at the end of September. The race was a grueling 5K with a lot of the course uphill. The distance for middle schoolers is usually two miles; however, the 5K gave the teams a chance to test themselves at a longer distance.

The girls came away with a first place finish to remain undefeated on the season with a 4 and 0 record. The team placed five runners in the top ten with Lexi Reeves leading the way with a third place finish. Lauren Smith finish a few seconds back in fourth with Catherine Stuart in fifth right on her heels.

Mary Elliot just missed a top ten finish coming in eleventh place. The rest of Pike’s runners all finished in the top half of the race. Emma Truitt Jamie Wallace and Mackenzie Malcolm all dug deep and pushed across the finish line to seal the victory for the Pirates.

The suffered their first defeated of the season, but managed to finish in fourth place against some strong competition. Aiden Potter and Landon Clark finished in the top ten with Potter in fourth and Clark in ninth.

The hills and heat took their toll on, but the Pirates willed their way to the finish. Luke Woerner, Christian Fowler, Garrett Child, Andrew Edward, Cooper Hanson, Noah Strader, Brayden Keiser, and Jonny Collins demonstrated a lot of tenacity during the race and make Pike proud.

The Pirates will travel to Gray to compete in the CGMSAL League Championships were both the girls and boys will be defended their league titles from last year.
