Georgia DOT Awards Two Contracts for Highway Resurfacing Projects in Upson, Pike and Taylor Counties

THOMASTON - The Georgia Department of Transportation has announced it awarded contracts for two projects in District 3 (West Central Georgia region). The projects were advertised on June 21, bids were received on July 19, and the contracts awarded to the lowest qualified bidders on August 2, 2019.

The projects are:

Pike and Upson Counties: the project involves 11.9 miles of resurfacing of Georgia 74 beginning west of Kelly Road and extending to Potato Creek Bridge. The contract was awarded to C. W. Matthews Contracting Company of Marietta, Georgia for $3 million. The project is expected to be completed in summer of 2020.

Taylor and Upson Counties: the project involves 13 miles of resurfacing and shoulder rehabilitation of US 19/Georgia 3 starting at the Flint River Bridge and extending north of Cook Road. The contract was awarded to Robinson Paving Company of Columbus, Georgia for $6.4 million. The project is expected to be completed in summer of 2020.

The projects were two of 13 awarded statewide on August 2, with the contracted amount for all 13 projects totaling $37,981,813.

The July awards bring the total construction contracts for Fiscal Year 2020 to $37.9 million. Fiscal Year 2020 began July 1, 2019.
