CONCORD - On Saturday, October 21, 2023, the Pike County American Legion Post 197 will host a 5K/10K Fun Run/Walk Fundraiser to be held as part of the Concord 50th Anniversary Jubilee activities. The start window is between 8:00 and 10:00 a.m., and a there is a choice between a 5K (3.1 miles) and a 10K (6.2 miles) course.
Early registration fee is $25 for everyone over 12 years of age and older. Kids under 12 years of age, registration is $10. The deadline is September 13, 2023. This ensures you get a T-shirt at the event.
Late and day-of registration is $25. However, you will get your T-shirt several days after the event. Everyone who registers receives an event T-shirt.
There was an article in the paper stating that the next run/walk would be in Meansville on September 16, 2023. Due to there being heavy road construction on several of the streets in Meansville at the time of the event, the Meansville City Council had to disapprove the event for safety reasons.
Event parking is as per the Jubilee parking plan; however, most participants will beat the festival crowd. The registration area and start will be at the corner of Concord’s Main Street and Lee Street. Once you’re done with your run/walk, enjoy in the Concord Jubilee activities on Saturday or come back on Sunday.

This event is Post 197’s fourth Run/Walk in Concord and its 17th overall in Pike County. The Run/Walk is a fundraising event to benefit our American Legion Veteran and Community programs while at the same time provide a healthy event for the community. The events rotate among the five cities of Pike County. By participating in each of the city events, one can conduct the Tour de Pike through traveling to and participating in the scenic courses. If you are an avid runner, you can use this event as an interesting workout for your running program. We take pride in providing scenic courses.
The Run/Walk 5K course is mainly on the Concord city and Hilltop streets, and the Concord fitness trail. The 10K course uses most of the 5K course and heads out west on county paved and dirt roads. The courses are relatively flat. There are rest areas for the thirsty and tired, and there are mile markers for those pacing and timing themselves. Use of exercise strollers should not be a mobility problem and having dogs on leashes as companionship or needing exercise is encouraged.
If you know of potential sponsors or would like to be a sponsor, please contact Bryan Richardson by text or phone at 678-764-2611 or email: rich5060@bellsouth.net.
Individual persons or participants can help sponsor the event with a donation of $50. This donation will allow sponsors to add the name of a deceased Veteran on the back of the T-shirt in their honor.
