CONCORD - The City of Concord will be conducting a smoke test of the sanitary sewer lines during the week of August 26. The purpose of the test is to locate places where excess water is entering the sewer system during a rain event.
In the days prior to the testing, please make sure to run water into all sinks, tubs, and floor drains, especially if they are not frequently used, to fill the plumbing “P-Traps”.
Be advised that you may see smoke coming from the sewer vents of your buildings. This is normal during the smoke testing in your area. There should not be smoke inside the buildings. If smoke does enter, it indicates a problem with your plumbing inside. Run water to flush the drain lines to clear the smoke.
Be advised that the smoke itself is NOT HARMFUL.
Smoke will also be visible in streets and yards along the sewer lines right-of-ways.
